Tidworth 10k & Fun Run, Sunday 2nd November.

Click here to go to the Stars Appeal web site. Click here to go to the Stars Appeal web site.

The 4th year this event has been run and despite the winter weather 1000 competitors turned out to take part and do their bit to raise funds and awareness for the Stars Appeal.

Tedworth House better known for hosting polo events was the venue this year, the 3k fun run was around the grounds of the house, a delightful setting that added to the family feel of the run.

The 10k race was a combination of road and cross country and took only 34 minutes to finish

(well some of us took longer) but despite the pace everyone was filled with a sense of achievement when they crossed the line.

The 1st mechanised unit provided the hardware and marshalling whilst volunteers from the Stars Appeal and staff from from Salisbury District Hospital provided the support for the competitors. Garrison FM kept everyone up to date with news and provided the music and even a silver medal olympian turned up, in the shape of Josh West, who started the races and handed over the prizes at the end of the event.

As we did last year, £2.50 will be donated to the appeal for every print purchased from this event.

For more information on the event or the appeal visit Tidworth 10k and Stars Appeal.

Salisbury 1/2 Marathon Sunday 19th October.

The Salisbury Half Marathon was hosted by the Wiltshire Fire Brigade's Salisbury station in Ashley Road. With nearly 400 competitors and a pleasant if a  times dull day the scene was sent for another great race.

As with all such events some people take part to raise funds or awareness for a cause others just to say I've done it and for some it is the competition that drives them on.

As is usual the event was well organised with lots of helpers from Salisbury Athletic Club and the local Cadets, everyone crossed the finish line with a smile and a huge sense of achievement.

Maybe next year you will be inspired and have a go.

Great Wishford 3 & 10k Saturday 20th September 2008

The first Great Wishford 3k & 10k took place under glorious conditions.

The Indian summer had arrived to make sure that this first running event organised by the teachers, parents and other volunteers to raise funds for the Great Wishford School, went without a hitch.

The warm up put everyone in the mood and it was clear to see that once the race started it was down to business and winning meant everything to young and old alike.

British Heart Foundation Pier 2 Pier swim 20th July 2008

A refreshing 14 degree water temperature did little to dampen the spirits of the massive 1200 entry to this years swim between the Bournemouth and Boscombe piers. The day was dry and at times cloudy but the competitors and spectators were warmed alike at the sum raised expected to top £80,000.

The pictures of the event are split into two sections, the start and the finish.

The finish pictures are in time order (well nearly) but are accurate enough to find yourselves. The first 4 digits are the time in hours and minutes. 12-30_0001, 12-30_0002 etc the last 4 digits are just the image reference. British Heart Foundation South Downs Randonnee 1 28th June

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) South Downs Way Randonnee 1 meant a 06:00 start from Winchester for the 100 and 65 mile riders. The route across Hampshire and Sussex follows the path of the longest continuous bridleway in the country with very little road cycling this route is for the serious cross country rider. The target for the 65 mile course was a finish at the Devils Dyke near Brighton while to 100 mile ride see the participants heading on towards the finish at Eastbourne.

The 35 mile route started at the Devils Dyke and the finish at Eastbourne was no less demanding if a little more civilised with a mid-day starting time.

If you think you have what it takes then why not login to bhf.org.uk/events and look at signing up for the second 100 mile event later in July.  There is a competition with a great prize for the person who raises the most sponsorship on the rides, find out more at joy-riders.com.

The pictures taken were the 100 and 65 mile routes only and the photographer was at the top of Annington Hill approximately 57 miles from the start before the checkpoint at Steyning.

Le Mans 24hr 14/15th June

Audi took an unexpected win in the LMP1 category at the 76th Le Mans 24hr this year beating the Peugeot, that had proven so quick in qualifying, into 2nd and 3rd places. The GT1 Corvette / Aston dual was as usual a close fought affair but for the second year in a row the Aston team sporting the Gulf livery won the day. LMP2 honours went to Porsche RS Spyder who took 1st and 2nd place While Pescarolo-Judd took 3rd, GT2 saw Ferrari 430GT take the first 4 spots, a good days racing for the prancing horse.

For those of you who have not made the pilgrimage to this historic race we have compiled some picture of the racing and also some of the 258.500 people who attend this year, the pictures.

If you see anything that makes you want to pay a visit next year take a look at www.beermountain.com or www. LeMans.org.

Cotswold all Women Triathlon Sunday 8th June

The Tri Ferris All Women Triathlon was a great success again and a large field of competitors enjoyed a glorious day at Keynes Park in the Cotswolds.
Some people were running for special reasons others seemed to just take it all as it came and even had time to stop and do a bit of shoe shopping along the way.

Salisbury Fast Twitch Triathlon 25th May

The Salisbury fast twitch triathlon was held at the Five Rivers Leisure Center near the heart of Salisbury. The Swim session was under way by 7:30am and the modified cycle route took the competitors out along the river valley with a chance to "sight see" as they passed Stone Henge before heading back to start the run up to Old Sarum with a lap of the athletics track to finish for good measure.

British Heart Foundation Dorset Bike Ride 11th May

The British Heart Foundation Bike Ride started from the Queen Elizabeth School, Wimborne.

There were plenty of people taking part some old, some young and some just along for the ride!

A choice of three distances with routes of 25 miles, 50 miles & 66 miles for those that just can't get enough.

Keevil 10k & Fun Run 10th May

The Keevil 10k and kids fun run was held at the still active Keevil airfield, but luckily all flights were suspended as the competitors raced around the perimeter track in quite hot and humid conditions. The race winner set a blistering pace that many are sure will remain unbeaten for some time to come.

Not everyone was out to break records but most were out to obtain pb's some just started younger than others and some were just there for the fun.

The picture above is from the "Running Man 2012" campaign, if you want to support this initiative please visit www.longfieldstone.com for more information.

Concept Sport Winchester Fast Twitch Sunday 20th April

Winchester Fast Twitch

The Winchester Fast Twitch is the second in a series of triathlon's expertly organised by the Conceptsport team. With events held in Dorset, Wiltshire and Hampshire there is plenty of variety to keep the appetite for Triathlon events well and truly satisfied.

The event at Winchester was a complete contrast to that held two weeks prior at Hungerford where the competitors endured near blizzard conditions. Sunday was dry and not too warm and the large field was proof of the growing popularity of these events.

VoTwo Dirty Double adventure race, Southampton Sunday 16th March 2008

Itchen Country Park was the venue, it was wet muddy and cold, some would say the ideal conditions to hold an adventure race, take a look at the images and decide for your self.

It is important to know that at no time were any animals put in danger, the gorillas are very careful not to damage the local wildlife or competitors.

Oh and did we say it was muddy?

Exbury Gardens 10k Sunday 8th March 2008

Exbury Gardens was the setting for the 10k road race taking in the sea front at Lepe as well as the beautiful surrounding country side, with a finish line set among the gardens at Exbury and weather that was not that forecast, a great day's racing was enjoyed by all who took part.

British Heart Foundation First Jog Lydiard Park near Swindon 24th Feb 2008.

For more information on these or any other planned events please visit bhf.org.uk/events.

Pewsey Terminator 24th Feb 2008.

The Terminator is known for the tough demanding course and this year was in danger of being cancelled due to the lack of bad weather, the organiser seriously thought it was going to be just too easy to earn your shirt. At the last minute with some quick thinking and help from some serious wildlife (namely the addition of two crocodiles at the swamp, and one at the shoe wash) the course reputation was back on track.

A staggering 1001 competitors took up the challenge and that was not the only record to be beaten as a blistering pace was set by the front runners and a new course record of 1hr 12m and a few seconds was set.

For most people it is the competition that is the driving force, with the Terminator it is the surviving that is far more important, will you "Be Back? "
